I AM MAD.
On my first connecting flight back to the Land of the Free, I was sandwiched between two young children (one in front, and one behind). The one in front was fine, as he was obedient and sleeping — The one behind, though... QWERTYUIOP ANGER ANGER ANGER
When I got on the plane, this kid kept screaming in a girl-like voice, and I got kind of annoyed, but I said to myself that “oh, small kids are probably excited, and it’ll subside”.
Little did I know of the impending, head-pounding pain! This kid was on caffeine, or energy pills, or weed, or something. EUUGHHHHH
The kid would NOT STOP TALKING. Well, not talking, he was more or less thinking out loud. More like FREAKING BEING LOUD AND ANNOYING AND KICKING ME UGHHH — and he had a mother who decided not to tell him to, uh, stop, which I was astounded by. She needs to get a grip on him, fast. The kid literally would not stop emitting idiotically annoying sounds from that mouth. For a whole hour. Thankfully, this flight was only an hour long, or else I would go maddddd...
Also, towards landing, the kid’s mom told him “it’s going down!”, resulting in him saying “it’s going down! it’s going down!” for about a dozen times, I mean, seriously, it sounds like a terrorist has just taken control of the plane (I hope not)
I heard his mom say that he’s on (our next connecting flight) too. Oh shoot. That one will be around 12 hrs long! I hope the best for my seating — I’m boarding soon.
BONUS pseudo-R8 for your time.

Ear plugs are a wonderful thing on long flights.

Forgot to mention that I was wearing a pair of noise-canceling headphones. At maximum volume.
And yet still the shrill voice resonated in my ears

If the parents aren’t doing anything, speak the fuck up!

What I often do with children being an annoyance behind me on flights is: I whack them with the reclining seat, just a very quick whack, they will stop or cry, if they cry whack them again.

The funny part about having your own kids is you learn how to fuck with other kids a lot better. Or at least help defuse the situation through levity and games. Most parents are grateful for the help, honestly, as long as you’re not playing “got your nose” and pull out a boxcutter or something.

Not a jury in the world would convict you for killing that kid.

If they are behind you again ask a flight attendant if it would be possible for you to move to a different seat(that is already open).

Turn around and politely ask her to keep her kid from kicking the seat. I have flown a few times with our three boys, and it is a lot of work to keep them entertained on a flight. We’ve taken toys, books, etc., even an entire Matchbox airport set that we opened up on the tray table. But that’s just it: it’s work. There are parents who try very hard to help their kids, and there are those who just don’t give a fuck. So please don’t blame the kid. He’s just a kid. Blame the parent, because they are the one who should know better.

Ear plugs? I think he meant ball gags.

Duct tape might cause fewer awkward questions than approaching a minor with bondage gear.....just saying :D

Dear lord, I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully the little shit tires itself out and passes out shortly into the next flight.

Congratulations.

Dude you need better head phones.
And as a Dad who flies with a young child multiple times a year, that mom sucks balls for not working at it. If you’re not going to work at keeping your kid from being disruptive, stay home.

I'm mad at the kid, but is the parent who needs the flogging, not the kid like everyone else is saying here.
